After an excellent preparatory education he attended Thiel College, later the University of Pittsburgh, and was graduated from the latter institution in the class of 1909 with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He served an internship of one year at the Passavant Hospital, then established himself in the practice of his chosen profession at Sewickley, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, where he gained the confidence of a large number of patients. He was a member of the Phi Rho Sigma Fraternity, and he and his wife are members of the Lutheran Church.
