He was first commissioned as Captain in the 7th Battalion Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, militia, Oct. 12, 1792, and Sept. 11, 1794, was commissioned as Captain in the 2d Reg. Lancaster Brigade. In the spring of 1795, he came to Erie County in charge of a company, remaining until about 1798, in which year he went to York County, Pennsylvania, and married. Returning with his young wife, they settled in Mill Creek township on the farm later occupied by his grandson, George Reed. Here he died. His family numbered seven children: two sons and five daughters, all buried\emdash father, mother and children\emdash under a pine tree planted by Mrs. Grubb on the old farm, when they lost their first child. Hon. John Grubb was commissioned Major in the State militia Dec. 26, 1798; Justice of the Peace, April 15, 1797, and again May 16, 1801; County Commissioner, 1813 to 1815, and County Associate Judge Jan. 8, 1820, which last office he held till March 13, 1841.
