His parents immigrated from Donegal county, Ireland, to the United States in 1771, and he was born during the passage to America. In the last decade of the Eighteenth cen­tury, he came to Butler County, PA, with his parents, and grew to maturity in Con­cord township. He married and settled on a part of the land entered by his father.
