General Notes: Husband - William Coad

He attended the common schools of Derry township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and on attaining his majority embarked in the dairy business which he pursued for five years. He then came to Livermore (1881) and opened a general mercantile store which he conducted until January, 1889, when he sold an interest in his store to H. B. Rutledge. Thereafter they did a successful business under the firm name of Coad & Rutledge. In addition to his mercantile business Mr. Coad owned and managed a dairy farm of one hundred and fifty acres of land adjoining Livermore. He kept eighteen cows and shipped his milk to Allegheny City. He was a republican in politics, and served his township as assessor for one term and school director for several terms. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
