General Notes: Husband - John Patterson Clutter

He received a common-school education, and afterward attended Monongahela College, at Jefferson, Pennsylvania. After leaving college he taught school for a period of three years, when he began the operation of the mill. He was an ardent Democrat, and was elected county auditor in 1889, receiving the largest vote in his own township of any candidate before the people. Both he and Mrs. Clutter were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at West Union, Pennsylvania. In addition to his mill work he owned and conducted a farm.
