General Notes: Husband - Richard Hough


He was a Quaker and an intimate friend of William Penn, and came originally from Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.
He met his future wife on shipboard on the way over to America and they were married a year later.

They came from Gosworth, Cheshire, England, on the ship, "Endeavor" of London, July 29, 1683. They settled in Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Provincial Councillor, 1693-1700, and member of Assembly eight terms, between 1684 and 1704.

He came to Philadelphia in the ship "Endeavor," of London, arriving July 29, 1683, bringing with him four servants or dependents. He settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he took up two tracts of land fronting on the Delaware river. He built a stone house on the lower tract near where Morrisville now stands. Here six generations of the eldest male branch lived, part of the land remaining in their possession until 1850. He took active part in all the early affairs of the county\emdash social, political and religious. He belonged to the Falls Meeting of the Society of Friends, his house being one of the meeting places before the Falls meeting house was built. The first marriage on Falls records was that of Richard Hough to Margery Clows, 1st mo. 17, 1683-1684. He was one of the jury that made the first official division of Bucks County; represented Bucks County in the provincial assembly, 1684-88-90-97-99-1700-03-04. In 1693 and 1700 he was a member of the provincial council. He was one of the justices of Bucks County. He was drowned in the Delaware river, on his way home from Philadelphia.
