General Notes: Husband - Col. James Power Hoover


He was appointed prothonotary of Venango County, Pennsylvania, by Governor Porter in 1839, and in the election that followed he was elected to that office for a three-year term. He was elected a member of the Pennsylvania Senate in 1844. In 1851 he was appointed by the Canal Commissioners as collector of tolls at Hollidaysburg. He was commissioned a colonel by Governor Shunk. Colonel Hoover, together with his father-in-law, Philip Clover, and his brother-in-law, General Levi Clover, presented to the town and county of Clarion the land on which the court house and public buildings stand.
