General Notes: Husband - Samuel Clokey, Esq.

He was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and came to Washington County at the age of eighteen years. He married and settled on the home farm. He was first a Whig, and then a Republican, being a leader both in political and business circles. In church connection he was first a Seceder, after uniting with the United Presbyterian Church at Pigeon Creek, in which he was a trustee and leading member.

He resided on the home farm till his death. A tavern was opened at this place soon after the pike was opened, which was kept by one Applegate. The place was named Clokeyville, after Samuel, who at that time was proprietor of the lands. A post-office was opened at the place, and Samuel Clokey was appointed postmaster. He was succeeded by his son Joseph.
