He was a native of the Nipponese Valley, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, and owned a fine farm of 200 acres there which he operated until his sons were old enough to take charge of it. He then engaged in the hotel business in the same locality, but after a few years he returned to his farm to spend his declining years. He was a firm adherent of the Republican party.
