General Notes: Husband - Gen. Alexander Craig
After the Revolution he became one of the leading military men in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, attaining the rank of general. In 1793 he was commissioned colonel in the militia and was made a brigadier general in 1807, and again commissioned in 1811. He lived to be ninety-five years old.
He entered the army at the age of nineteen, and later was a lieutenant in the company of Captain John Shields. He was with the army, under General Washington, that crossed the Delaware, and fought the battles of Trenton and Princeton. He endured the hardships of the campaign in the Jerseys, and finally returned home to contend with the Indians. When the War of 1812 came General Craig said, "I am growing old, but if my service can help my country, I am ready to go." He was not needed, however, and lived on along the lines of peace, amidst his kindred and neighbors till his death.
Notes: Marriage
Their marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. James Power\emdash the first Presbyterian minister who remained permanently in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The dress of the bride was made of "fine twined linen", spun by her mother and herself, and woven very thin, and bleached to a snowy whiteness, and was said to have been beautiful.
