General Notes: Husband - Hon. J. Verner Clark

He received his education in the common schools of West Middletown, Pennsylvania, and at Pleasant Hill Seminary, and, later, at Washington and Jefferson College. Leaving college in 1875, he followed the occupation of farming in West Middletown until 1883, at which time he engaged in business, conducting stores first in Washington and afterward at West Middletown. He continued in business until 1894, when he was elected sheriff of Washington County on the Republican ticket. At the expiration of his term as sheriff he was elected a member of the Legislature for the session of 1899, and was re-elected for the session of 1901. Thereafter he served as superintendent of the Citizens' Water Company of Washington. Religiously, he was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, of Washington.
