General Notes: Husband - Robert Proudfit

He learned the trade of cooper, but for fourteen years after his marriage followed farming, first in Harbor Creek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, later in Burritt Township, Winnebago County, Illinois, to which place he moved in 1856. In 1859 he sold his farm and moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he worked at his trade for nine years. He then went to Virden, Macoupin County, Illinois, where he remained until October, 1884, when he went to Friend, Nebraska. After his son, Samuel V., who held a position in Washington, D. C., had bought a home in Falls Church, Virginia, he spent several years with him, but returned to the west in 1895, and died in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He united with the Baptist church in Burritt, Illinois, in 1856, and remained a member of that communion until his death. In politics he was a Whig until the formation of the Republican party, when he gave his support to that organization.
