He was engaged in farming from the time he reached an age to make use of farm implements, and his life was passed in Summit Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. In addition to operating his own farm, he rented fifty additional acres, which he also cultivated. For some years he was in the dairy business and operated a milk route through Butler.
