He was a native of Germany, who immigrated to Reamstown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, about 1760, and engaged in merchandising; he there married and became the father of four children, two of these, George and Margaret, survived.

Her first husband, Christley, died, and she married a man named Norris. He returned to England, and was never heard of again. She, with her three children, removed to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and settled near Greensburg, where she married again.
