General Notes: Husband - Maj. William Caven

He was well known in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, having been sheriff, and for many years superintendent of the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia turnpike, an important highway at that early date, before the advent of railroads.

He was a major in the War of 1812. He was extensively engaged in business for the times: he built part of the National Pike and operated the salt works on the Youghiogheny river, and was at one time sheriff of Allegheny County.
