He accompanied his parents on their removal to the farm in 1880, and continued to reside with them until the spring of 1894, when his father removed to Rathmel, leaving the place to his sons, Joseph G. and William. The former purchased his brother's interest in 1892, and became the sole owner. By industry, perseverance and diligence, he placed the land under a high state of cultivation, and made many improvements.
