General Notes: Husband - James M. Carothers


He completed his education under Prof. R. K. Burns, at Plainfield Academy, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and early adopted the profession of teaching, which he followed for six years. He remained at home and took care of his aged parents until their death. He purchased the interest of the other heirs in the homestead, and owned a fine farm of fifty-two acres of fertile and well-improved land.
He was a life-long Democrat, with strong temperance principles. He and his worthy wife were consistent members of the Evangelical Association, in which he was class-leader.
