General Notes: Husband - Andrew Jackson Carner


When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted at Emlenton, Pennsylvania, on October 9, 1861. He was mustered into Company L, Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry for three years. He was commanded by Captain Duncan. Andrew was reported absent in the September and October, 1863 Muster Roll. In November and December, he is reported missing in action since 12 October 1863 at Sulphur Springs, Virgina. On the July, 1865 Muster Roll, he is "discharged by reason of expiration of term of Service October 31, 1864. Died at Andersonville, Georgia, April 25 1864 of Diarrhaea while a prisoner of war." A memorandum states that he was admitted to the hospital at Andersonville on 3 April 1864. He is buried in grave number 734. His personal description in the Company Discriptive Book reads: age 27; height 5 feet 9 inches; complextion light; hair black; eyes gray; occupation laborer. [DKM, 33]
