General Notes: Husband - Samuel Mitchell

He was raised on the homestead farm in the Kishacoquillas valley of Pennsylvania. He received his education in the schools sustained by the families of the neighborhood, and was at home until his twenty-eighth year. When he was twenty-six years of age, he married. In 1815, he and his father purchased 400 acres of land in Derry township, in what later came to be known as Dry valley. Here Samuel began to clear and make improvements; he first built a log house and a barn and applied himself diligently to the work. After a few years of careful, persevering labor, he saw the wilderness replaced by broad fields of waving grain.
