He came to Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1865, and was one of the early men who engaged in the oil business. After a number of years thus engaged he went to Mercer County in 1877, and there embarked in the fire insurance business at Greenville, which he followed until his death. Politically, he was a supporter of the principles of the Democratic party; served as assessor for a number of years, and was also tax-collector. In his religious convictions and profession he was of the Episcopal faith.
