He received his education in the public schools of his native place. He was engaged as a window trimmer at Youngstown, Ohio, and later was engaged at Jeannette. He was a staunch Republican, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and of the First Lutheran Church, and sang in the choir there.
