He was reared by his uncle, James Hart, and carried butter, &c., when a boy, to the Latshan, Skilton, LeMar and other Salt Works, selling the butter for six cents per pound.
He served as justice of the peace for thirteen years, and as elder in the U. P. Church for twenty years.
