General Notes: Husband - John Whitmire

He was reared a farmer and followed agricultural pursuits all his life, with the exception of ten months, during which he was serving his country as a private soldier in Company B, Sixth Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He enlisted in the fall of 1864 and remained in the service until the close of the war. He returned to his home and resumed his peaceful avocation and continued an active farmer until his sons grew old enough to take the responsibility.
