He completed the public school course and then entered Washington and Jefferson College, where he was graduated in the Class of 1894, after which he read law under the direction of Attorney Henry M. Donigan and was admitted to the bar in March, 1898. He immediately entered into practice in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and won election in 1907 to the office of district attorney.
