He was an agriculturist in Butler County, PA, the owner of an oil producing farm, but selling his interests there in 1874 he came to Wolf Creek Township, in Mercer County, and bought the William Patterson farm. He spent the remainder of his life there, becoming one of the most influential farmers of his community.
