He was reared in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and there obtained his education and his training as a practical farmer. In 1900 he came from there to Lawrence County and settled on a farm in Wilmington Township. The location of the property afforded his family town ad­vantages and also the pleasures of a coun­try home.
