General Notes: Husband - Richard Butler

He was born and reared on the farm, received a common-school education, and followed agricultural pursuits for some years. He learned the carpenter's trade at twenty years of age, and with the exception of about three years he made it his life-long occupation. He enlisted in Company E, 25th Wisconsin Regiment, was with Sherman on his celebrated march, and was engaged in many battles, as he was in active service every day for three years. Later in life, besides working at his trade, he was in the stone quarrying and clay business. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and of the A. O. U. W. He was a Republican politically.
