He was educated in the common schools, and reared a farmer, in connection with which he was engaged in the oil business, having twenty-nine wells on his own farm. Po­litically he was a Democrat.

The name "Lillian, 1878-1919" appears on his gravestone as his wife. (But thirty years younger than he??? Perhaps a daughter?)
