John Willard Tracy was born in Franklin, Venango County, Penna. He received his grade school education in a little one room school in Cherry Tree Twp. Venango County and his High School education in the Randolph High School at Guys Mills, graduating in 1920, a member of the first class to graduate from the four year high school. He graduated from the Meadville Commercial College in June 1922. He has been connected with the Banking business almost ever since he graduated, first as a teller in the First National Bank of Meadville and from there to the Merchants National Bank and Trust Company located at the corner of Water and Chestnut streets in Meadville, Penna. He attended the school of Banking at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. and was elected Cashier of Merchants Bank and he was elected to the office of City Controller to fill the vacancy caused by the acting controller and when the term expired he was re-elected and held the office for many years. He is a member of the Stone Church and of the Masons and several other clubs and civic groups.

General Notes: Wife - Gladys Enid Burgwin


Gladys Enid Burgwin was born at Parker's Landing, Armstrong County, Penna. She was moved with her parents to Guys Mills, Crawford County, PA, in September 1909. She received her education from the elementary and high school in Guys Mills and at Edinboro Teachers College where she graduated in June 1924. Returning to Guys Mills she taught in the Primary grades of the Randolph Consolidated School for two years and then took up a different line of work as wife of John Willard Tracy, For five years they lived in Guys Mills and bought a home in the city of Meadville, PA, No. 775 Washington Street where they moved in May, 1931.
Their two daughters, Ann Theresa and Jeanette Ruth were born while they lived in Guys Mills. John Robert was born after they moved to Meadville but he was born at the home of his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. C.W. Burgwin at Guys Mills. Gladys united with the Methodist Church of Guys Mills when she was but a child and was always to be found in her place at Church, Epworth League, and Sunday School where she taught a class for several years. After moving to Meadville she worked in the Nursery Department of the Sunday School from which she was Superintendent for many years. She enjoyed that work and spent many hours in working for and with Junior High. She was very conscientious both in her Church work and in her home as a mother putting the care of her children in first place among her many duties as a housewife.
