About 1921 he went with his brother, Harold Reno Prather, to Wyoming, where they worked in the Salt Lick Oil Field. Lee stayed and homesteaded on 1000 acres of land raising sheep. He sold the ranch about 1929 but reserved mineral rights which his children continued to collect lease money from for years.
