General Notes: Husband - Robert H. Young

He received a good education and followed teaching for twenty years. He purchased a homestead in 1866, adding ten acres to it in 1890.
His family were members of the United Presbyterian church.
In 1864 he enlisted in the Sixth Heavy Artillery, leaving his wife and three children, the youngest six months old, without any support but the local bounty received from Forward township. He served until June, 1865, when the regiment was discharged.
Mr. Young was a Republican, was elected superintendent of the public schools in 1872, filled that office three years, and was also school director for one term, and township auditor beginning in 1881. He made a specialty of small fruit growing.
