General Notes: Husband - Hiram Anderson Gilson


He came with his parents to Manchester (later Allegheny City), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he received his education in the public schools. At the age of fourteen years he entered the workshop of Phelps, Carr & Co., of Allegheny City, and learned the trade of carriage trimmer. After completing his trade he remained and worked for that firm for six years. In 1857 he went to Greensburg where he was engaged at his trade for four years. In 1861 Mr. Gilson came to Mt. Pleasant, engaged in carriage trimming there. In 1882 he removed his family to the last named place and made it his home.
He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Episcopal church and member of Mt. Pleasant Lodge, No. 198, Ancient Order of United Workmen.
