General Notes: Husband - George Thomas Hays

He attended the public schools, was graduated from Fairview Township High School in 1919, and attended Penn State College. Upon leaving college he went to Detroit, where he attended a general automobile school. He then returned to Karns City and worked as weighmaster and surveyor for the McDonald Coal Company. In 1925 he, in partnership with Mr. Stoops, purchased the Pickard & Sherwin Service Station. This partnership continued until February, 1927, when Mr. Stoops sold his interest in the concern to Christopher F. Hays, the father of George T. Hays. They had the only station of its kind in the city. They had a storage capacity for thirty-five cars and carried a complete line of automobile accessories, tires, gas and oil. In connection with the station they sold confections, tobacco, soft drinks, and radios.
He was a Republican and a member of the United Presbyterian Church. His fraternal affiliations were with Argyle Lodge, No. 540, F. and A. M., Chicora, Pennsylvania; New Castle Consistory, thirty-second degree, A. A. S. R., New Castle; Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., Pittsburgh; Syrian Caravan, No. 14, A. A. O. N. M.
