This family comes from a stanch old Scotch-Irish background. He, his wife, with one child emigrating from the motherland at an early day and settling in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. There they passed the remaining years of their lives-he dying at the age of ninety-one, and she at eighty.

He and his wife settled in Crawford County about 1803, where they had seven children, all of whom were living still living in 1885.
