He was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, but he removed with his parents to Reading, Pennsylvania, when quite young, and there acquired his education. He was graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1858, and then practiced medicine in Reading with great success. He took an active interest in the city and county medical societies.
