General Notes: Husband - James L. Cochran

The first time he was away from home, was when he was a young man, he went to Kittanning, and clerked for Samuel Houston for a time. He was west for a few years, and traveled over several of the western states. After his return, he married and in the following spring they removed to Earlville, Illinois, where they resided for three years. During that time he worked at the carpenter trade, which he had learned before his marriage. In the fall of 1858, he returned to Pennsylvania, where he taught school the following winter. Mrs. Cochran also returned to Pennsylvania in the spring of 1859, leaving Earlville, May 24, and they located in South Buffalo township, Armstrong county, where they lived until the spring of 1862, when he purchased a farm from his brother, Robert. Mr. Cochran had a hand in building a great many of the houses and barns within a considerable radius of where he lived. He taught music and took an interest in education, serving six years as school director. He also held other township offices.

General Notes: Wife - Mary C. Bricker

She attended Glade Run Academy for several terms, and was a successful school teacher for many years before her marriage.
