General Notes: Husband - Parker Reed

He was tutored at home and in the country schools, and reared on the farm which he subsequently inherited. He was an elder in the Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church for thirty-three years, and superintendent of the Sunday-schools for seventeen years, and was efficient and zealous.

He became a successful sheep raiser, owning some valuable stock and taking special pride in his Spanish Merinos, whose wool brought him a fancy figure. As old age approached he gave over the care of his farm to his sons and obtained the agency for the first mowers and reapers which appeared in the county. In politics he was a Democrat, but during the Civil War was a sincere and hearty supporter of Abraham Lincoln. His interest in religious matters was always wide and sympathetic. For forty years he was ruling elder in the Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church, and for nearly all of that time was superintendent of the Sunday school. He always was the delegate of the church to the synod and twice was a representative in the general church assembly when it was held at New Orleans and New York.
