General Notes: Husband - John Haldeman

Locust Grove, near Bainbridge, on the Susquehanna, Lancaster Co, PA

He was an enterprising and influential citizen. He was a large land-owner, and engaged largely in business pursuits, in partnership with Robert Ralston, of Philadelphia, in the China trade, and he was a member of the Bingham Court and First General Assembly of Pennsylvania. He resided at Locust Grove until late in life, when he removed to Columbia, in the same county, where both himself and wife died.

The large stone mill at Locust Grove (subsequently transferred to his fourth son, Henry), was built by him and bears the inscription-ERBAUET BEI JOHN HALDEMAN AND MARIA HALDEMAN, 1790.

John Haldeman was a private in Lancaster County Battalion (3rd and 7th) (Penna. Archives, 5th Series, Vol. VII, pp. 198, 204, 452, 725, 785) and served in Pennsylvania Legislature in 1795.

He and his wife raised a large family, most of whom were sons, and became successful business men.
