General Notes: Husband - Joseph Breed

Though but a youth at the outbreak of the Revolutionary war, he entered the service, taking an active part in the struggle for independence. During one battle he was captured by two British soldiers, who held him by turns, and while one had him by the coat collar he managed to jump out of his coat, which was very large for him, thus making his escape. They fired after him, however, and he was hit in the leg by two buckshot, which he carried with him to his grave.
He and his wife came to Venango County, PA, from Stonington, CT, in 1818, with their family of five children, three sons and two daughters, all then married but one son and one daughter and bringing their respective families. They bought land of John Stiver (who then moved to Ohio), and settled at what became Breedtown. He was a shoemaker by trade, but they all engaged in farming. [CAB, 914]
