General Notes: Husband - "Irish" Robert Culbertson

Peters Twp, Cumberland Co, PA

He is supposed to have come to America at the same time his brothers, Alexander and Samuel.
Took out a warrant for land in Peters Tp. on March 31, 1743, (No. 212) in what was then Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.)

In 1730, three brothers, Alexander, Joseph and Samuel Culbertson, from near Ballymoyney, County Antrim, Ireland, emigrated to Pennsylvania and settled in Lancaster County. Long prior to the organization of Cumberland County, they located in what became Lurgan township, Franklin County, seven miles north of the present site of Chambersburg, and called their settlement "Culbertson's Row" after the home of their ancestors in the Province of Ulster, Ireland. [CRFP, 640]

He paid taxes in Peters Tp. in 1750. He died in 1763. On October 19, 1763, John Clark, Margaret Culbertson and Hannah Clark were appointed administrators of his estate. In 1764 Margaret Clark, late Culbertson and relict of Robert Culbertson of Peters Tp., deceased, was appointed guardian of minors: Thomas, Mary, Ann, James, Robert and Margaret, and the court issued an order to sell the real estate consisting of 120 acres. This sold for £64 and return made to court and distribution made. Nothing further appears on court records of Cumberland or Franklin Counties from the administrators or Margaret Clark as Guardian. We presume this is the date at which John Clark and wife and step-children moved to Shermans Valley, Perry Co., Pa.
