General Notes: Husband - Levi C. Brandt

He attended school in St. Thomas township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and worked on his father's farm as was the custom, and thus continued until 1864, when he enlisted in Company A, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry, and served in the Army of the Cumberland under General Thomas in the campaign against General Hood. Returning from the army, he farmed for a time in St. Thomas township, then engaged in butchering for nine years, and later operated a hotel at St. Thomas for seven years. At the end of that time, he came to Chambersburg, and in 1897 took charge of the "Millers Hotel," a well known and popular hostelry.
He was a member of the Knights of the Golden Eagle; G. A. R. Post, No. 578, St. Thomas, and also of the American Relief Association. For eighteen years, Mr. Brandt was one of the most popular and successful auctioneers of Franklin County.
