Educated in the public schools, he was at an early age assisting practically with the farm labors. For a time he rented farms and after his marriage he became the manager of a farm of ninety acres, the old Bradshaw place, which had been inherited by his wife. In 1910 he established a corn shredder on this property, and in 1913 added a threshing outfit, and these additional labors kept his time very fully occupied.
