For some time he was pastor of the Tremont M. E. Church at Boston, Massachusetts. In 1872 he graduated from Washington and Jefferson College, and afterward with first honors at Boston School of Divinity. He was on the circuit for a time prior to locating in Massachusetts.

She was a descendant of Gov. Bradford of the Plymouth Colony.
