General Notes: Husband - Andrew Bradford


He was the friend and patron of Benjamin Franklin. He was a man of large wealth, a member of common councils and postmaster of Philadelphia.

He learned printing with his father; was in partnership with him in New York until 1712, when he moved to Philadelphia; he issued the first number of the American Weekly Mercury, the first newspaper published in the Middle States, December 22, 1719, which he conducted until his death; he was a vestryman of Christ Church, Philadelphia, and is buried in the churchyard of that parish.
