He acquired his education in the public schools in the vicinity of his home, then assisted his father in the care and management of the farm until he was twenty-five years of age. He then learned the tailor's trade with L. D. Boggs, of New Brighton, Pennsylvania, with whom he remained associated until 1899, when he started in business independently.
