He was reared on a farm and re­ceived his education in the common schools of his neighborhood. Leaving school he engaged in the business of farming and stock-raising. He was a republican in politics. He owned a part of the old Boyd homestead farm and was successful in farming and stock-raising. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church.
