General Notes: Husband - Charles Edward Kratzer

He was but three years of age when he lost his father. He was educated in the St. Paul's School for Soldier's Orphans, at Butler, Pennsylvania. For one term he was also a student in the Collegiate Institute at Rimersburg. While at the orphans' school he learned the printer's trade, which he followed for six months after completing his education. When typesetting machines came into use he was thrown out of employment, and for a short time thereafter held a position in the Iron Works at Pittsburgh. In 1894 he came to Rimersburg and here followed coal mining until October; 1907, when he purchased the Rimersburg Gazette, which was started in January of that year. He has since been identified with local journalism, and has made the above publication one of the substantial newspapers of Clarion county. In politics he maintains an independent attitude, preferring to give his support to men and measures meet-ing with the approval of his judgment rather than to vote along strictly partisan lines. The dissemination of news, the discussion of public questions and the promotion of the general welfare of his community through the columns of his paper constitute life's object with Mr. Kratzer as a private citizen. His public serv-ice has been confined to the office of tax col-lector of the borough of Rimersburg. In a fraternal way he is affiliated with the Inde-pendent Order of Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, the Knights of the Golden Eagle and the Junior Order of American Mechanics.
