General Notes: Husband - William D. Walthour

His early days were spent on a farm, and he received his education in the common schools of the district. At the age of nineteen years he went to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and entered the employ of Jacob Mensch, where he learned the trade of carpenter and joiner, and the practical management and conduct of a planing mill. After completing his apprenticeship he went to Pittsburgh, entering the Kelly planing mill at Seventh avenue and Fountain street. He commenced as workman at the bench but in less than a year had risen to the position of foreman, which position he retained for about a year, and then resigned in order to return to Greensburg. There he entered the mill in which he had acquired a knowledge of his trade. After a time he found employment with W. H. Kessler, and after eighteen months the firm name was changed to Struble, Walthour & Struble, operating a planing mill and lumber yard. This business was conducted very successfully from July 9, 1883, until February, 1887, when Henry Struble retired from the firm, and the business was continued under the style of Struble & Walthour, composed of Daniel G. Struble and William D. Walthour. Its capacity was greatly enlarged and they transacted the largest amount of business in their line in the city. He was a director of the Merchants' Trust Company of Greensburg; director of the Grand View Cemetery Association of East McKeesport; stockholder in the McFarland Supply Company; and stockholder in the Jersey Cereal Food Company of Irwin. He was an active and prominent member of the Second Reformed church since 1890, and held the office of deacon for more than twelve years; was as many years leader of the choir; and active in Sabbath school work for an equal length of time. He was a member of the following organizations: Westmoreland Lodge, No. 518, Free and Accepted Masons, of Greensburg; Kedran Commandery, No. 18, Knights Templar; Olivette Council, No. 13, Royal Arcanum; Urania Chapter, No. 192, Royal Arch Masons; and Lodge No. 511, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of Greensburg. He served as a member of the borough council and also of the school board.
