General Notes: Husband - Jordan Johnston

He received his education in the district school in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and on completing his schooling became a farmer-or, in other words, merely continued to be a farmer, since he had been born on a farm and had worked from early boyhood on that farm, and he was a farmer through most of his life. During his latter years as a tiller of the soil he took an active part in the building operations in Ellwood City, which was formed about 1890, and, having retired as a farmer, he devoted his later years to building altogether. About fifty houses or more were erected by Mr. Johnston in Ellwood City. He was one of the largest property holders in the city, and, although he eventually ceased building operations, he still maintained a deep interest in construction activities.
At one time Mr. Johnston was a director in the First National Bank of Ellwood City. For twelve years he served on the Wayne Township School Board, and as a school official was active in reinforcing the knowledge of the teachers and others of history, in which he was well versed, and on June 12, 1917, the Ellwood City Board of Education presented him a Bible in appreciation of his services to the city and the schools.
Mr. Johnston was a Republican; and he and his family were Methodists.
