He was a patriot, who served in the Irish rebellion of 1798, and was taken prisoner, but escaped to America, whither his family followed him. In the year 1800 his son William emigrated from Ireland with his mother to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, whither he had preceded them, and in 1805 they settled in what was then Cool Spring Township, Mercer County, but afterward was organized as Lake.
